Valle de Guadalupe, Baja’s wine country, and the surrounding areas have become internationally renowned for their vineyards, winemaking and now the “Baja-Med Cuisine” movement. The perfect combination of soil, terrain, water and unique coastal Mediterranean climate mimic the conditions found in the southern European mediterranean wine regions like Provence, Tuscany and Rioja.
In recent years the level of investment has risen dramatically with many new wineries establishing themselves in the region. The Historically established vineyards such as LA Cetto, Chateau Pedro Domec, Monte Xanic, Baron Balche, Chateu Camou, Liceaga, Adobe Guadelupe, Bibayoff and Vinesterra are flourishing. However, the new breed of vineyards like El Cielo, Las Nubes, Monte Fiore, Tres Valles and Emeve are raising the bar in the area. Recently the longest continually producing and one of the most prestigious vineyards in Baja (located in the valley well to the south of ensenada), Santo Tomas, established vines and a visitor center in the area.
There is a new wine museum as well as several incredible restaurants pushing the envelope of what is now known as “Baja-Med” cuisine like Laja, Finca Altozano, Bruma’s Fauna, Fuego, Adobe Guadelupe, El Cielo, Origen and internationally acclaimed Corazon del la Terra. There are now many excellent choices for lodging in the area like Villa de La Valle, Adobe Guadalupe, Encuentro Guadalupe and Hacienda Guadalupe
The Guadelupe Valley had three distinct regions, each with their own character; San Antonio De Las Minas, Porvenir and the Calafia region. I suggest you explore each extensively and discover the character that makes each unique.
